How To Mute Or Unmute An Instagram Story

You may see what your friends are up to by viewing their reels or stories on Instagram. However, there are situations where you might wish to permanently mute someone’s Instagram story without unfollowing them, then later unmute it. So, to do so, follow the directions given.

How to Unmute a Story on Instagram

With over 1 billion monthly active users, Instagram is the most popular social networking platform with to features like posts, live videos, reels, direct messages, and stories. On Instagram, you can choose to mute some users’ stories to step away from their content or general life updates without unfollowing them. Later, you can unmute them again.

Method 1: Through Instagram Feed or Homepage

As shown below, you can use the Instagram app’s feed or homepage to unmute the desired story.

1. On your phone, launch the Instagram app.
2. As mentioned, find and long press the chosen muted (greyed out) story from the top.
3. As shown below, tap the Unmute story option.
4. The story has been unmuted in your Instagram feed.

Method 2: Through User Account Profile

Additionally, stories from the wanted account that you had previously muted can be unmuted. The steps below will show you how to unmute an Instagram story from an account profile. Read them through.

1. Launch the Instagram app on your phone, then, according to below, tap the Profile symbol in the lower right corner.
2. As shown, tap the Following button that shows next to your account name and profile photo.
3. From the list that shows up, click on the right profile account.
4. As stated tap the Following tab found below their profile.
5. Select “Mute” from the list by tapping it.

6. Unmute the posts and stories from that report by switching off the Posts and stories settings, as shown.

Method 3: Through Account Settings

In addition, you can use the instructions listed below to unmute an Instagram story from your account settings.

1. From the upper right corner of your Profile area, tap the hamburger icon.
2. Select Privacy from the list by tapping on it.
3. Under the Connections section, scroll down and hit the Muted accounts option.
4. Press on the accounts that you want to unmute.
5. As stated, tap the Following tab found under the profile.
6. Click or tap the Mute button.
7. To unmute the posts and tales from the selected profile account, toggle off the Posts and stories settings, as shown below.
