Even though your computer is linked to the internet, not allowing access is a common issue that everyone faces from time to time. Why does this mistake bother you is the question. I mean, why do you have to deal with this mistake when everything worked smoothly before?
Let’s just state that many factors can result in this kind of issue. To start, software upgrades or fresh installations may alter registry values. Here’s how to solve a WiFi connection but no internet access. Sometimes, your PC may not be able to automatically obtain an IP or DNS address. It may also be a driver issue. Don’t worry, though; all of these issues are very fixable.
Fix WiFi Connected but no Internet Access
As a last resort, always build a restore point in case anything goes wrong
Method 1: Reboot your Computer and Router
Most of us have heard of this extremely simple trick. Sometimes a simple restart can fix any software issues on your PC. Therefore, restarting your computer is a fantastic suggestion if you are someone who likes to put their computer to sleep.
- Select the Start menu and then press the Power button, which can be found in the lower left corner.
- After that, select Restart, and your computer will restart on its own.
Once the computer has restarted, see if the issue has been fixed.
Even though you are connected to WiFi, you may not be able to access the internet if your router is not set up correctly. All you have to do is hit the Refresh/Reset button on your router, or you may access the router’s settings and look for the reset option.
- Unplug the power source from your WiFi router or modem after turning it off.
- After 10 to 20 seconds, reconnect the power wire to the router.
- Turn on the router, then try to connect your device once more.
Method 2: Update Network Adapter Drivers
- To launch the device manager, press the Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” in the Run dialogue box.
- Expand Network adapters, then choose Update Driver Software from the resulting menu when you right-click on your Wi-Fi controller (such as Broadcom or Intel).
- At this stage, click “Search for automatically updated driver software”.
- From this point on, Windows will look for updates for the network driver automatically. If any are identified, it will download and install them automatically.
- After everything is done, shut down and restart your computer.
- To update your WiFi driver in Device Manager, right-click on your network and choose the option if you’re still having problems with your WiFi connection but no internet access.
- Choose “Browse my computer for driver software” on the Update Driver Software Windows screen.
- Choose “Let me choose from a list of available drivers on my computer” at this point.
- Try to update the drivers using the versions that are provided, and be careful to mark the appropriate hardware.
- Visit the manufacturer’s website to update drivers if the steps above don’t work.
- Restart your computer after downloading and installing the most recent driver from the manufacturer’s website.
Method 3: Uninstall Wireless drivers
- To launch the device manager, press the Windows key + R, type “devmgmt. msc,” and press Enter.
- Right-click on the Wireless network card after opening the list of network devices.
- Choose Uninstall; click Yes if asked for confirmation.
- Click Action after the deletion is finished, then choose “Scan for hardware changes.”
- The wireless drivers will be installed automatically by the device manager.
- Find a wireless network and connect to it now.
- Select “Change adapter settings” after opening the Network and Sharing Center.
- Finally, choose Disable by right-clicking on WiFi.
- To enable the network card, right-click on it once more and choose “Enable” from the list.
- To troubleshoot issues, right-click the network icon and choose “Troubleshoot Problems.”
- Allow the troubleshooter to resolve the problem on its own.
- To apply the changes, simply reboot.
Method 4: Automatically find the IP address and DNS server address
- To open the Network and Sharing Center, right-click on the Network icon and choose “Open.”
- Select the wireless network that you are currently connected to by clicking on your connection.
- Select “Properties” from the Wi-Fi Status panel.
- After choosing Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Properties.
- Select the options “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically” under the General tab.
- Try to fix the WiFi connection but no internet access by restarting your computer. If not, you can try using Open DNS or Google DNS, which looks to fix the problem for most users.
Method 5: Try resetting TCP/IP or Winsock
- Select “Command Prompt(Admin)” with a right-click on the Windows button.
- Type each of the following instructions and hit Enter following this:
- Open Command Prompt once more, then type each of the following commands, pressing Enter after each one:
- To make changes, reboot.
- To make changes, reboot.
Method 6: Enable WiFi from BIOS
Sometimes, none of the solutions listed above will work because the wireless adapter has been deactivated in the BIOS. In this situation, you must enter the BIOS and set it to default, then log back in and access the Control Panel’s “Windows Mobility Center” to turn the wireless adapter ON or OFF. Try fixing the WiFi connection but no Internet access issue first, and if that doesn’t work, try updating the wireless drivers from this or this link.
Method 7: Edit Registry key
- Type “regedit” and press Enter after clicking the Windows key + R.
- Select the following key in the Registry Editor:
- Look for and set the value of the key “EnableActiveProbing” to 1.
- Restart your computer to check if it solves the issue of WiFi being connected but not having internet access.
Method 8: Disable Proxy
- Open Windows Search, type “Internet properties” or “Internet options,” and then select Internet Options.
- Select LAN settings by clicking on the Connections tab.
- Verify that “Use a proxy server for LAN” is unchecked and “Automatically detect settings” is checked.
- Select Apply after selecting OK.
- To save changes, restart your computer and see if you can resolve the issue where WiFi is connected but internet access is not available.
