NBA 2K, a video game developed by 2K Games, is well-known for its precise depiction of a professional basketball league including NBA teams, players, and venues. NBA 2K24 is a 2023 release that is a pure action-packed version of the same franchise. But when the game crashes, everything misses the basket. Fear not—we’ll help you in resolving the NBA 2K24 crash issue on the Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Now let’s get started.
NBA 2K24 or 2K23 Crashing on Xbox and PlayStation
ProPLAY, a feature of NBA 2K24, transforms NBA video into in-game motions and animations. In addition, there have been apparent improvements made to the gaming mechanics. It makes sense for a fan to feel happy, even though surprise game crashes can be annoying. Here’s how to make the same correction:
Preliminary Tips:
- A lot of users have noticed that when they have more than 100 friends or blocked accounts on their profile, game crashes usually happen. Therefore, until the total is 99 or less, we advise you to unblock some of them or remove them from your friends list.
- Verify that the NBA 2K server is functional and up. If so, you should verify your Xbox or PlayStation console’s server status. Games may crash due to server failures; if in contradiction, report problems and wait for them to be fixed.
- Last but not least, troubleshoot and improve the console’s network connectivity because online games need a sufficient amount of internet capacity to function properly. See our post on How to Solve a Slow Internet Connection. 10 Methods to Increase Internet Speed! for more help.
- The console may overheat for a variety of reasons, but it can also cause games to crash and performance to be slowed. Therefore, before playing again, make sure the vents are properly ventilated and give the console time to cool down.
Method 1: Clear System Cache
It’s possible that your console built up many temporary files over time in the form of cached data that has become corrupt. If that’s the situation, the games may be taken offline. To resolve the problem, you can delete these cached data.
Option 1: On Xbox
- On the controller, press the Xbox button.
- Click the A button to choose Settings from the Profile & System tab.
- Select Blu-ray from the right pane after selecting Devices and connections from the left.
- Find Protection and then remove PERSISTENT STORAGE.
Option 2: On PlayStation
Simply switch off the PlayStation 4. To turn on the console, unhook the power wire, wait for at least 30 seconds, and then plug it back in when the indicator has stopped blinking. On the PlayStation 5, though:
- Choose Turn Off PS5 by pressing and holding the PS button on the controller.
- After the indicator turns out, push and hold the console’s power button until a beep sounds.
- Press the PS button after using a USB cable to connect the controller to the console.
- Choose to Rebuild Database and Clear Cache before moving on to Clear System Software Cache. To confirm, click OK.
Method 2: Play Game Offline
You also have the option to play it offline on your console until the game server or internet problems are resolved. Here’s how to do it
- To view the tutorial, press the Xbox button on the controller.
- Click Settings, then click General, and finally click Network settings.
- Choose “Go offline.”
- After that, start your Xbox series X/S and play NBA 2K24 to see whether it crashes any more.
Method 3: Update Console
Console software that is too old can cause a number of problems and make gameplay difficult. You have to maintain the device updated in order to avoid or resolve these.
Note: Verify that the console is linked to an active internet connection.
Option 1: Xbox Series X or S
- Press the Xbox button on the controller.
- Choose Profile & system and then Settings from the guide menu.
- Select Updates in the right pane after going to the System tab, then follow the on-screen directions.
Option 2: PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5
If you’re having trouble with your PlayStation 5 game crashing when playing NBA 2K24 or NBA 2K23, check out our tutorial on How to Update PS5 and follow the steps provided there.
Method 4: Update Game
In the same way, out-of-date games frequently have problems and glitches that are fixed by updates. Thus, to guarantee that NBA 2K24 no longer crashes, make sure to update it.
Option 1: On Xbox
- To access the help menu, click the Xbox button on the controller. Then, choose My games & apps.
- Click Manage, then select Updates, and then click Update all.
Option 2: On PlayStation
- From the Home screen, select NBA 2K24 and hit the controller’s Options button.
- Scroll down, choose the menu item “Check for Updates,” and then watch as any available updates are downloaded and installed.
Method 5: Use Cloud Storage
As the console’s memory is cleared, many gamers have found that changing from local to cloud storage helps avoid surprise game crashes and improves performance.
Option 1: On Xbox
- Open the Settings menu in the guide and choose System, then Storage.
- Make sure the Cloud Saved Games option is enabled by selecting it.
Option 2: On PlayStation
Note: To use the cloud storage function, you must have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
- Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Auto-Upload on the PlayStation 4 NBA 2K24
- PlayStation 5: Settings > Cloud Storage > Upload or Delete from Game/App Settings and Saved Data Upload > Upload to Cloud Storage.
Method 6: Reset Xbox or PlayStation Console
The final option is to reset your Xbox Series X/S or PS4/PS4 if NBA 2K24 keeps crashing and the problem is still not fixed. Usually, doing this removes the cause of all issues and problems. Please see our How to Hard Reset Your Xbox Series S guide for more information.
Users of the PS4 and PS5 can reset their console to factory settings. But be aware that doing so removes from the console all data save for the operating system. Thus, be sure to back up all of your data and games in advance.
Method 7: Reinstall Game
The last option to fix the problem is to uninstall and refresh NBA 2K24 in order to download new game files and get away of all the out-of-date corrupt, or missing ones.
Option 1: On Xbox
- Choose My games & apps, then Games from the guide menu.
- Choose NBA 2K24, hit the controller’s menu button, and choose Uninstall from the list.
- To make sure choose Uninstall all.
- After uninstalling, go to the My Games & Apps menu and choose All Owned Games, then Full Library.
- Install 2K24 by choosing it from the list.
Option 2: On PlayStation
- Select Game Library from the Games window.
- Select the NBA 2K24 or 2K23 game on the controller and hit the Options button.
- From the menu, choose Delete, then click OK to finish.
- To install NBA 2K24/2K23, navigate back to the Game Library, select Purchased from the left pane, and then click the icon.
